Google SMS service launched in India

Google the leading search engine has launched it's mobile SMS service in India. With Google SMS service which is still in beta stage the mobile users can get local business listings, movie showtimes, weather, facts, dictionary definitions, and other local or web information just by sending an SMS to 54664 or 5GOOG.

This service is currently available to Airtel,BSNL,Reliance and BPL subscribers across Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Google doesn't charge for sending and receiving queries but the users would be charged with standard rates for sending text messages depending on the network operator.

"There's no denying the importance of text messaging in India, and the launch of Google SMS is a natural next step for our mobile strategy," said Vinay Goel, Head of Products, Google India. "Millions of new mobile users are being added every month, and Google SMS will provide them with a quick and easy way to get the information they need when and where they need it." according to google press center.
